TheBANK of Edwardsville Recipe Contest

Amateur chefs compete to be named "master of the root." All entries must be prepared in advance and brought to the site for judging. The deadline to enter the contest is May 30.

This non-professional contest is open to girls between the ages of 4-6 years old living in Madison, St. Clair or Monroe counties. Dressed in their best, the young ladies will strut their stuff and share a little bit about themselves with the audience.
Washer Tournament TBD at the Jaycee Softball Diamond.
The entrance fee is $12 for each two-person teams. Fee is paid the day of the event.
Medals will be awarded for first, second, and third place teams. The first place team will also be awarded a cash prize based on the number of entries (so be sure to have your friends and family play too). Kurt's CARSTAR Root Derby

This is one of the most popular events at the festival. Contestants make little derby cars using a real horseradish root and race them at the festival! Click here for the registration form and rules.
Derby car kits can be purchased at Kurt's CARSTAR, 1 Mueller Drive in Maryville, and RC Gateway, 108 E.Main in Collinsville, after May 14, 2011. Contact Kurt's CARSTAR at 618-345-4519 for more information.

Collinsville Sunrise Kiwanis Fishing Derby
Saturday, June 2 at Woodland Park Lake - Registration at 8:30 a.m., fishing at 9 am, weigh-in at 11 a.m.
Free event for children 15 years old and under.
There's a special competition for children with disabilities, sponsored by the Southwestern Illinois Special Recreation Association (SWISRA).
Bring your pole, bait and bucket for fish. A limited number of loaner poles will be available. Catch a tagged fish that day and receive a special prize! There will be prizes and giveaways, and a free hot dog and soda for all participants.
Sponsored by the Sunrise Kiwanis Club, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources,
the Southwestern Illinois Special Recreation Association and CARD.
Arlington Greens Golf Course Root Golf TBD at the Jaycee Softball Diamond.
A closest-to-the-pin contest where participants use a golf driver to hit a horseradish root "ball". Each contestant gets one free shot, additional tries are $1 each. No need to register or bring your own clubs - just show up and give it a swing. Prizes will be awarded for both men and women each day at 4 pm.

A throwing contest using a horseradish root, who would've thought!? Each participant gets one free toss, additional chances are $1 each. No need to register; just show up and show off your tossing arm! Prizes will be awarded for men and women in various age categories at 4 pm each day.

Bloody Mary Contest

You must be 21 years or older to participate in this spicy contest! Each recipe must include horseradish and Smirnoff vodka. Click here for the contest application and official rules. Contestants must submit their recipe, including list of ingredients and mixing method by May 30 to Horseradish - Bloody Mary Contest, 221 West Main, Collinsville, IL 62234.
You may also submit your entry through email to Missy or drop it off at the Collinsville Schnucks. Be sure to include your name, address and telephone number.
Brede/Farmers Horseradish Root Sacking Contest TBD at the Horseradish Festival Stage
The game is simple - put as many horseradish roots into the burlap sack in 30 seconds. The team with the heaviest bag wins.

Get ready, get set...Root Relay! This family-friendly relay has three divisions:
Family: two adults and two children. Children must be 12 years old and under. Each team member will run ½ mile.
Men’s Relay: two men, ages 13 and over. Each participant will run 1 mile.
Women’s Relay: two women, ages 13 and over. Each participant will run 1 mile.
Prizes will be awarded to the team with the best name, the best dressed team, and the first place team in each division.
